How do I apply?

Applications for Uprising can be filled and submitted here, and will be made available until 11:59 PM on July 31, 2019.

When can I expect to hear back?

Applicants will know on or before September 2nd whether they’ve been accepted into the program or not.

What are the eligibility requirements?

To apply to Uprising, you must meet the requirements below:

  • Are a resident of Toronto (inclusive of Scarborough, North York and Etobicoke)

  • Are between 18-29 years old

  • Are able to commit to a five-week weekend program (every Saturday starting on September 28)

  • Have an interest in or are currently working in the publishing and/or media industry

  • Want to gain print and digital publishing experience

While we appreciate the interest of non-Jamaican folks who are considering applying, this program prioritizes folks of Jamaican descent/heritage.

Why is Uprising requesting my Twitter handle?

Uprising’s focus is on both print and digital media, but we are especially aiming to equip our program’s participants with the tools needed to be digitally-literate media makers. Using social media, in addition to building, having and/or maintaining a strong digital presence, is part of said literacy. We also strongly encourage the usage of social media from and among our participants throughout their time in Uprising.

Is Uprising child, pet or partner(s)-friendly?

While we don’t offer on-site child care, children are welcome in the space. Emotional support pets are not permitted and only Uprising participants are to be present during the sessions.

Are all sessions mandatory?

Yes. Given that participants will have been notified of their acceptance into the program three weeks prior to the first session, you will have ample time to make accommodations. The sessions will take place each Saturday on September 28th, October 5th, October 12th and October 19th. We have the space until 5:00 PM, but mandatory session hours are between 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Our session on October 26th is optional.
